| buttered slices of white bread (about 3) | 1/2 cup raisins | 1 cup mixed candied peel (citron, orange, lemon) |
| 1/2 cup pitted dates | 2 tablespoons jelly | 3 cups milk |
| 2 tablespoons cornstarch | 3 egg yolks | 1 cup sugar |
| 1 | Arrange the slices of buttered bread in the bottom of a greased baking dish, dot with raisins, candied peel, dates, and jelly. Make a cream of the milk, cornstarch, egg yolks, and sugar. Pour this over the bread and fruits, let stand for 2 hours, then bake for about 1/2 hour in a 400-degree oven. Serve warm or cold. |
