| INGREDIENTS: | ||
| 1-1/4 cups sugar | 1 orange | 1/2 cup shortening |
| 2 eggs, well beaten | 1/2 teaspoon salt | 1 teaspoon baking-soda |
| 1 cup pitted dates, or raisins | 2 cups cake flour | 1 cup sour milk |
| 1/2 teaspoon baking-powder | ||
| 1 | Combine 1/4 cup sugar and orange juice. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Cream 1 cup sugar with shortening. Add eggs. Sift flour, measure, and sift with baking-powder, baking-soda, and salt. Add alternately with milk to first mixture. Add dates or raisins which have been ground with orange rind. Mix until well blended. Pour into well-oiled loaf pan. Bake in moderate oven 375 F. about 45 minutes. Pour orange juice and sugar over cake before removing from pan. |
