INGREDIENTS:
1/2 lb flour 2-3 ozs fat (butter, margarine or lard) 1-2 ozs sugar
1 egg (optional) 1/4 teaspoonful salt 1/2 teaspoonful bicarbonate of soda
1-2 ozs currants buttermilk or milk



1 Rub the fat into the flour and salt. Add the dry ingredients and mix well. Add the milk to make a soft dough and turn on a floured board. Shape into a round and roll to about 1/2 inch thick. Bake both sides on a hot girdle. Should be eaten well buttered.
