| INGREDIENTS: | ||
| 1/2 lb self-raising flour | 3 ozs brown sugar | 1 egg |
| 1/2 lb stoned dates | 3 ozs of shelled walnuts | 3/4 of a cupful of boiling water |
| 1/2 teaspoonful of bicarbonate of soda | 1/2 teaspoonful of salt | |
| 1 | Chop dates and walnuts and to these add the bicarbonate and the salt. Then pour on the boiling water and leave for two minutes. Add sugar. Then the flour and lastly the well-beaten egg. |
| 2 | Bake in a moderate oven for about one hour. Cut and spread with margarine or butter. |
