Preheat the oven to 350 F. |

Put 1/2 cup of sugar into a mixing bowl and cut in the butter. Mix together well. Break in the two eggs and beat them into the sugar mixture till light and creamy, about 5 minutes. Mix together the flour and baking powder, then gradually incorporate the flour into the sugar-egg mixture. |

Cut the plums in half and remove their stones. Put the plum halves in a bowl, pour on the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar and the cinnamon, and mix well. |

Butter a large, rectangular baking tray, and then fill it evenly with the batter. Space the plum halves, cut side up, all over the cake. Put in the preheated oven and bake till done, about 30 minutes. Serve with whipped cream. |
