| 4 apples, peeled and cut in wedges | 2 cups water | 1 cup sugar |
| 1 tablespoon rum or port wine | 1/4 cup butter | |
| 1 | Cook the apples in the water until soft and slightly mushy, add sugar and rum or port wine, and cook for a few minutes more. Then add the butter and stir in well. Serve hot or cold with poultry or pork. |
