Cut apples into quarters and remove core. Place in a large heavy pot along with cranberries and water. Cover. |

Heat to boiling. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for about 15 minutes more, until apples and cranberries are soft. |

Remove from heat and remove apples from pot. Set aside cranberries and water remaining in pot. |

Press apples through a fine strainer often. Discard apple skins that remain in strainer. |

Mix strained apples with cranberries and water remaining in pot. Add sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, mixing thoroughly. |

Serve warm or chill in refrigerator and serve cold. |
