Hanukkah Apple Sauce

INGREDIENTS:
16 apples, any combination of varieties 1/2 cup dried cranberries 1 cup water
3/4 cup sugar 1/4 cup brown sugar 1/2 to 1 teaspoon cinnamon
dash of nutmeg



1 Cut apples into quarters and remove core. Place in a large heavy pot along with cranberries and water. Cover.
2 Heat to boiling. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for about 15 minutes more, until apples and cranberries are soft.
3 Remove from heat and remove apples from pot. Set aside cranberries and water remaining in pot.
4 Press apples through a fine strainer often. Discard apple skins that remain in strainer.
5 Mix strained apples with cranberries and water remaining in pot. Add sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg, mixing thoroughly.
6 Serve warm or chill in refrigerator and serve cold.
