Heat oven to 400 F. Grease bottoms only or paper-line 12 (2-1/2-inch) muffin cups. In large bowl, combine flour, wheat germ, 1/4 cup of the sugar, the baking powder, 3/4 teaspoon of the cinnamon and the salt. Stir in apple. In small bowl, combine milk, oil and egg. Add to flour mixture, stirring just until moistened. Fill muffin cups almost full. In small bowl, combine remaining 1/4 cup sugar, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, the nuts and margarine. Sprinkle over muffins. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown and wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from pan. |
