| 2 cups pinto beans | 1-1/3 quarts water | 1 Tbsp salt |
| 1/2 lb bacon, sliced in half-slices | 2 tsp oregano flakes | 1 garlic clove |
| 1 | Inspect beans and remove any dark or broken beans. Rinse beans well under cold water. |
| 2 | In a cooking pot, bring water to a fast boil with salt. Add beans, bacon, oregano and garlic clove. Reduce heat to medium and cook until bacon is fully cooked and beans are tender (1 hour, 25 minutes). |
