Irish Soda Bread

INGREDIENTS:
2 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 tsp salt 1 tsp bicarbonate of soda (baking soda)
1/2 tsp cream of tartar 1 tbsp butter 3/4 cup buttermilk



1 Mix the flour, salt, bicarbonate of soda, and cream of tartar together in a bowl, then cut in the butter.
2 Pour in the buttermilk and mix to a soft dough with a metal spatula. Turn out onto a floured surface and shape into a round-do not knead the dough.
3 Place on a floured baking sheet and score a cross in the top of the loaf using a sharp knife. Sprinkle lightly with flour.
4 Bake in a preheated 425 F oven for 10 minutes. Reduce the temperature to 400 F and bake for another 10 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
