| 2 eggs | 1/2 cup sugar | 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon rind |
| 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon | 1 teaspoon vanilla | 2 cups milk |
| 16 slices stale bread | 6 ounces butter | confectioners' sugar |
| 1 | Beat the eggs with the sugar, lemon rind, cinnamon, and vanilla. Add the milk, slightly warmed. Arrange the slices of bread in layers in a shallow dish and pour the milk over them. Let stand for 1/2 hour. Fry the slices in the butter, but be careful that they don't break. Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar. |
