Warm Cheese-and-Bread Dish

INGREDIENTS:
10 slices stale bread without crusts 5 slices cheese 2 eggs
1 cup milk 1 tablespoon butter



1 Place 5 slices of bread in a buttered ovenproof dish. Cover with the cheese and top with the rest of the bread. Beat the eggs with the milk and pour over the bread and cheese. Let soak for 1/2 hour. Dot with butter and bake in a moderate oven (350 F.) for 1/2 hour. Serve warm or cold. This dish goes well with a green salad.
