Bread Dish with Almonds (Broodschoteltje met amandelen)

INGREDIENTS:
18 slices stale bread 2 cups milk 6 ounces almonds, blanched and finely chopped
2 egg yolks 1 cup sugar 2 egg whites, stiffly beaten
1 tablespoon butter 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon



1 Soften the bread in warm milk and mash it fine. Mix with the almonds, egg yolks, and sugar. Fold in the beaten egg whites. Pour into a buttered ovenproof dish. Sprinkle with the cinnamon, dot with butter, and let rise in a moderate oven (325 F.) for 1/2 hour.
