| INGREDIENTS: | ||
| 3 onions, sliced | 3 tablespoons butter or fat | 1 pound cooked chopped meat |
| meat drippings diluted with water to make 2 cups | 1/2 teaspoon salt | 1/2 teaspoon pepper |
| 1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg | 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce | 3-4 medium-sized potatoes, mashed |
| 4 apples, peeled and sliced very thin | 1 tablespoon bread crumbs | |
| 1 | Saute the onions in 2 tablespoons butter. Add the meat, liquid, and spices. Mix well. Fill a greased oven-proof dish with alternate layers of mashed potatoes, the meat-and-onion mixture, and a layer of apple slices. The top layer should be potatoes. Dot with the rest of the butter and sprinkle with bread crumbs. Bake in moderate oven (350 F.) for 1/2 hour. |
