Braised Lettuce (Stoofsla)

INGREDIENTS:
16 heads lettuce 1 tablespoon salt 1 cup meat gravy
3 tablespoons butter 2 tablespoons bread crumbs



1 Remove the outer green leaves from the lettuce and wash the hands thoroughly. Cook in ample boiling water with salt for 1/4 hour. Drain well and place in baking dish. Cover with the gravy, dot with butter, and sprinkle with the bread crumbs. Heat in moderate oven (350 F.) for about 15 minutes.
