INGREDIENTS:
1 cup all-purpose flour 2 tablespoons brown sugar 1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt 2 tablespoons cold butter 2 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 cup old-fashioned oats 1-1/2 cups buttermilk

1 Preheat the oven to 375 F. Grease a baking sheet.
2 Combine the all-purpose flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl; mix well. Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or two knives. Stir in the whole wheat flour and oats.
3 Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk all at once. Mix with a fork until well blended.
4 Turn the dough onto a floured board and knead for 1 minute. Shape into a ball and set on the baking sheet. Press into a 6-inch circle. Cut a cross in the top.
5 Bake for 40 minutes, or until well browned and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
