| 1-1/2 cups sugar | 1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter, softened | 4 eggs |
| 1-3/4 cups flour | 1 teaspoon cinnamon | 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg |
| 1 teaspoon baking soda | 2/3 cup raisins | 2/3 cup chopped walnuts |
| 3 large apples, pared, cored and sliced | ||
| 1 | Cream the sugar and butter. Beat in the eggs, one at a time. Sift in the flour and spices into batter. Gradually add the remaining ingredients. Turn into a buttered and flour-dusted loaf pan and bake for 1 hour at 325 F, or until done. If desired, sprinkle with confectioners sugar just before serving. |
