| 1 lb okra sliced | 6 tomatoes, chopped | 1 bay leaf, crumbled |
| 10 peppercorns | 1 tsp salt | 1 cup water |
| 1-1/2 lbs shrimp | 1/2 tsp gumbo file | 1 tbsp water |
| 1 | Place okra, tomatoes, bay leaf, peppercorns, salt and the 1 cup water in a large kettle and simmer, covered, for 20 minutes or until tomatoes have broken up and okra is tender. Add shrimp and gumbo file mixed with the 1 tablespoon water; simmer 10 minutes and serve. |
