| INGREDIENTS: | ||
| 1 lb ground beef | 2 to 3 tbsp salad oil | 1/2 cup finely chopped onion |
| 1/2 clove garlic, chopped fine | 1 egg | 1/2 cup fine dry bread crumbs |
| 2 tbsp Parmesan cheese | 1 tsp salt | 1/8 tsp pepper |
| 6 oz can tomato paste | 1 cup canned tomatoes | 1-1/2 cups water |
| 1 bay leaf | 1/2 tsp leaf oregano | 1/4 tsp leaf basil |
| 1 | Fry onion and garlic in 1 tbsp salad oil in a skillet until lightly browned. Combine with ground beef and egg in a bowl. Add bread crumbs, cheese, salt, and pepper. Mix well. Shape into 1-in balls (35 to 36). Brown lightly in 1 to 2 tbsp oil in the skillet. Blend together the tomato paste, tomatoes, water, bay leaf, oregano, and basil. Pour over the meat balls. Simmer about 1 hour, until sauce is thickened. Serve with cooked spaghetti. |
