In a heavy saucepan mix all ingredients, except vanilla. Stir over medium heat until well blended. Bring to boil and cook without stirring until a small amount of mixture forms a soft ball when dropped in cold water; (238 F. on a candy thermometer). Remove from heat and cool until outside of pan feels lukewarm. Add vanilla and beat until creamy and easy to handle. Turn out on buttered platter and work with hands until very smooth and satiny. Shape in 2 long rolls and chill at least 3 hours. Slice thin to serve. |
