| INGREDIENTS: | ||
| 1/2 to 1 pound ground beef (more if desired) | 1 medium onion, chopped | 1 tablespoon chile powder or crushed chile |
| 1 teaspoon garlic powder | 1 tablespoon salt | 2 cups dried pinto beans |
| water as needed | ||
| 1 | Brown meat in a skillet. |
| 2 | Add chopped onion and saute slowly until it is golden in color. |
| 3 | Stir in chile powder and other seasonings and remove from the fire. |
| 4 | Pick and wash beans, put them in a large pot, and cover with water. |
| 5 | Add meat mixture to the beans, cover, and simmer for three hours, or until the beans are soft. Stir occasionally to keep the beans from burning, and add hot water as necessary. |
| 6 | Serve with fried bread, whole wheat tortillas, or someviki. |
