Dried Boiled Bean Sauce (Tuma Wutaka)

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup finely ground beans that have been cooked and dried 2 cups water seasonings to taste (chile, pepper, onions, etc.)



1 Combine beans and water in saucepan and simmer for twenty minutes, stirring often.
2 Add seasonings or meat drippings to taste.
3 Serve with chopped, raw onions and someviki for a light meal. (This recipe can also be used as a sauce or gravy, as a bean dip, or for making refried beans.)
4 During years of dought or other hard times on the reservation, food is never wasted. Leftover cooked beans are drained and spread out to dry, then are carefully stored for future use. Any cooked beans can be preserved in this way, but pinto beans are the most common.
