Blue Marbles

INGREDIENTS:
2 heaping teaspoons chamisa or other cooking ash 8 tablespoons boiling water 1/2 cup finely ground blue cornmeal
1 tablespoon sugar (if desired)



1 Mix the chamisa ash with 2 tablespoons of boiling water and set aside.
2 Measure the blue cornmeal and sugar into a bowl and stir in 5 tablespoons of boiling water.
3 Pour 2 tablespoons or more of the ash-water mixture through a strainer into the cornmeal, until the dough is distinctly blue in color.
4 Shape dough into balls the size of marbles.
5 Drop balls into 2 cups of boiling water and cook for ten minutes.
