INGREDIENTS:
SYRUP AND TOPPING: 2 c water 2 c sugar 1 slice lemon
chopped walnuts BATTER: 3 eggs 1-1/2 T oil
dash salt 2-1/2 c (about) flour 1-1/2 tsp baking powder
Crisco shortening for frying



1 SYRUP: To prepare syrup, combine water, sugar and lemon slice in saucepan. Bring to boil, stirring to dissolve sugar. Boil 20 minutes. Cool.
2 BATTER: To prepare batter, combine eggs, oil and salt in bowl. Beat until well blended. Add flour and baking powder and mix until soft dough is formed, similar to pie dough. Form into a ball. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface until as thin as for pie crust. Cut into triangles or diamond shapes. Fry, in batches, in heated shortening until puffed and golden. Drain on paper towels. Place on serving platter. Drizzle as much syrup over top as desired and sprinkle with walnuts.
