Cut ribs into 6 serving-size pieces, and place in a large Dutch oven. Add sliced onion and water to cover ribs; bring to a boil. Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 45 minutes. Drain ribs, and set aside. |

Melt butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Add chopped onion and garlic; saute until tender. Stir in remaining ingredients; bring to a boil. Remove sauce from heat, and set aside. |

Grill ribs over medium coals 20 to 30 minutes or until desired degree of doneness. Turn and baste frequently with sauce. |
