Indian Yeast Rolls

INGREDIENTS:
2 cakes fresh yeast 1 cup warm water 1/2 cup warm milk
5 Tbsp shortening 3 Tbsp brown sugar 1 tsp salt
1 cup cornmeal 6 cups wheat flour



1 Mix yeast and brown sugar with warm milk and water. Beat in 1 cup of flour. Let rise until the mixture is spongy. Add the liquid shortening. Beat well. Mix in the remaining flour. Add salt last. Knead 2-5 minutes. Cover and let rise to double original size.
2 Work down and make rolls about 1x3". Let rise 30 minutes. Dampen top of roll with water and sprinkle on cornmeal. Bake 25-35 minutes at 350 degrees.
