Baking Powder Biscuits

INGREDIENTS:
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted 1 tablespoon baking powder 2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar 1/2 cup softened butter
3/4 cup milk



1 Measure flour and sift all the dry ingredients together. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Form a wet dough with the milk. Knead 8 or 10 times. With a floured hand, pat dough out to a 1/2-inch thickness. Cut out biscuts with a floured biscuit cutter. Pat out scraps and cut again until all dough is used, and refrigerate biscuits for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F. Bake for 12 or 15 minutes or until golden.
