| INGREDIENTS: | ||
| 1 cup flour | 1/2 teaspoon salt | 1/2 teaspoon soda |
| 1/2 cup brown sugar | 1 cup rolled oats | 1/2 cup shortening |
| 2-1/2 cups sliced apples | 2 tablespoons butter | 1/2 cup granulated sugar |
| 1 | Sift flour. |
| 2 | Measure and add salt, soda, and brown sugar. |
| 3 | Sift again. |
| 4 | Add oatmeal flakes. |
| 5 | Cut shortening into mixture until it is crumbly. |
| 6 | Spread 1/2 of mixture in a greased baking pan 7x10 inches. |
| 7 | Arrange sliced apples over crumb mixture. |
| 8 | Dot with butter and sprinkle with granulated sugar. Cover with remaining crumbs. |
| 9 | Bake at 350 F. for 40 minutes. Cut in squares or bars while still warm. |
