| INGREDIENTS: | ||
| 3/4 cup shortening | 2 cups brown sugar | 3 eggs |
| 3 cups cake flour | 1/2 teaspoon salt | 1/2 teaspoon soda |
| 1 teaspoon baking powder | 4 tablespoons cocoa | 1-1/2 cups thick sour milk |
| 1 teaspoon vanilla | ||
| 1 | Cream shortening and add sugar gradually. |
| 2 | Beat until fluffy. |
| 3 | Add eggs and continue to beat. |
| 4 | Sift flour; measure and add salt, baking powder and soda. Sift again. |
| 5 | Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with sour milk and flavoring. |
| 6 | Beat thoroughly after each addition. |
| 7 | Pour into greased layer pans. |
| 8 | Bake at 350 F. for 25 to 30 minutes. |
| 9 | This cake is milder in flavor and lighter in color than the usual chocolate cake. |
