Mahogany Cake

2 (8 inch) layers


INGREDIENTS:
3/4 cup shortening 2 cups brown sugar 3 eggs
3 cups cake flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon baking powder 4 tablespoons cocoa 1-1/2 cups thick sour milk
1 teaspoon vanilla



1 Cream shortening and add sugar gradually.
2 Beat until fluffy.
3 Add eggs and continue to beat.
4 Sift flour; measure and add salt, baking powder and soda. Sift again.
5 Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with sour milk and flavoring.
6 Beat thoroughly after each addition.
7 Pour into greased layer pans.
8 Bake at 350 F. for 25 to 30 minutes.
9 This cake is milder in flavor and lighter in color than the usual chocolate cake.
