Grandmother's Ginger Balls or Ginger Nuts

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup shortening 1 cup molasses 1 cup brown sugar
3-1/2 to 4 cups flour 1-1/2 teaspoons soda 1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ginger 1/2 cup boiling water



1 Cream shortening and sugar together.
2 Add molasses and continue to beat.
3 Sift flour.
4 Measure and add salt, soda and ginger.
5 Sift again.
6 Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with hot water.
7 Mix thoroughly. Chill dough in refrigerator. Roll into balls 1 inch in diameter and dip into granulated sugar.
8 Place balls on buttered baking sheets about 2 inches apart. Bake at 350 F. for 12 to 15 minutes.
