| INGREDIENTS: | ||
| 1 c golden split peas | 1/4 c rice | 3 c water |
| 1/2 c oil | 1 onion, chopped | 1 T salt or to taste |
| 1/4 tsp cayenne | ||
| 1 | Combine split peas, rice and water in pan. Bring to boil. Skim off foam. Reduce heat and simmer 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Heat oil in skillet over moderate heat. Add onions and saute until golden brown, stirring frequently. Stir into soup. Season to taste with salt and cayenne. |
