Fried Bread (Variation)

INGREDIENTS:
4 cups all-purpose flour 4 teaspoons baking powder 2 teaspoons salt
2 to 2-1/2 cups water 1/4 cup shortening 1 pound lard



1 Sift dry ingredients into a mixing bowl.
2 Cut in 1/4 cup shortening.
3 Add enough water to make dough hold together.
4 Knead dough until it is well mixed and smooth.
5 Roll dough to 1/2-inch thckness and cut into squares or triangles.
6 Heat lard to 400F. in an electric frying pan, or to just below the smoking point in a heavy skillet.
7 Place squares of dough in hot fat, turning to brown on both sides.
8 Drain brad on absorbent paper.
9 Serve hot with beans, stews, or honey.
